Charity Walkathon World Sight Day 2017

World Sight Day is celebrated every year on Thursday, the second week of October since 1998 by Lions Club International which is then integrated into VISION 2020 under the coordination of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Commemoration of World Sight Day aims to raise awareness of blindness and visual impairment as a global health problem. This year, World Sight Day commemorative falls on October 12. At this year's commemoration, IAPB took the theme "Make Vision Count".

Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB) also participates in celebrating the World Sight Day. In this regard, BDNAB will conduct a walkathon for the people and residents of Brunei Darussalam. This walkathon is considered as a way of practicing, recreating and putting time to practice healthy living through exercise with the nation’s blind / visually impaired.

The objectives of the event are as follows :-

  1. To raise public awareness of blind / visually impaired problems as a major issue of international public health.
  2. To welcome the public especially the government to participate and set up funds for the national blind prevention programmes.
  3. To provide an opportunity for members of the association in an effort to pursue a healthy lifestyle through exercise with the society.
  4. To foster better relationships among members of the association and also with the participants through the walkathon.
  5. To get donations from the public and participants for the needs of BDNAB in the future.
  6. Financing members of the association who join any courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, welfare, education and sports held within or outside the country.
